3rd Gear & 17

We sure saw a lot of miles,
never even crossed that county line
I would've bet the farm, given my right arm
so you'd always be mine
Did we crash and burn or make a wrong turn
or run out of gasoline?
I lost you around 3rd gear and 17

(click on the video at the end of the post to hear the song)

I LOVE Texas Country! I'd never heard of it until I made the impulsive decision to spend six weeks in the middle of nowhere, New Mexico for a dairy program in 2008. I was in the inaugural class of the Southern Great Plains Dairy Consortium and had no idea what to expect. It sounded like a good opportunity and I've always been a big believer in taking every opportunity you can get. So many of those impulsive decisions have changed my life so much for the better.

Besides for getting to know my 17 classmates (when there's that small of a group and you're together ALL OF THE TIME, you get to know each other real quick) and learning a ton about the southwest dairy industry, I fell in love with the music we always listened to. I've loved country music, but this had a different twang to it. And I liked it!

Fast forward seven years and I still love it. I spent most of 2009 through 2012 trying to move to Texas. After I discovered that Indiana was where I really wanted to be (definitely didn't see that one coming!), I gave up on that dream but still have my Texas Country favs on my iTunes.

So, when I heard Aaron Watson was going to be in Indy at my favorite concert spot, I HAD to go!! I even got to meet him! Ahhh! I've never been star struck before, but I think that happened. I couldn't speak. So awesome!!

3rd Gear & 17 is one of my favorite songs. I love the beat and it's even better in person!

I held the keys to that Chevrolet
and you held the keys to my heart
I'd throw a fit, hit the dash,
get out and kick the tire
when that old piece of junk wouldn't start
It'd be smoking good I'm slam down the hood
Just to see you laughing at me
On the other side of a dirty windshield,
lookin' as pretty as could be

(chorus)
We sure saw a lot of miles,
never even crossed that county line
I would've bet the farm, given my right arm
so you'd always be mine
Did we crash and burn or make a wrong turn
or run out of gasoline?
I lost you around 3rd gear and 17

In the blink of an eye high school flew by
you went your way and I went mine
But we swore we'd make it,
our love could take it
400 miles could stand the test of time

Well I left that fall to play college ball,
but my dreams would all come to an end
'Cause you know the big leagues never called,
and you went and fell in love with him

(chorus)
We sure saw a lot of miles,
never even crossed that county line
I would've bet the farm, given my right arm
so you'd always be mine
Did we crash and burn or make a wrong turn
or run out of gasoline?
I lost you around 3rd gear and 17

Memories flash through my mind like old faded photographs
I still think about you in that red Malibu
and I just can't help but laugh

We sure saw a lot of miles,
never even crossed that county line
I would've bet the farm, given my right arm
so you'd always be mine
Did we crash and burn or make a wrong turn
or run out of gasoline?
I lost you around 3rd gear and 17

Love broke down around 3rd gear and 17
I lost you around 3rd gear and 17
