Comfort food is great in the winter. It's cold. It's dreary. We haven't seen combines or tractors in the fields for a few months since harvest and post-harvest field work ended in late fall. So, what are those farmers doing now that their fields are covered in snow?
While there is technically less going on in the winter than other seasons, there's always a lot going on. Grain farmers are hauling corn to the elevator. Livestock farmers are caring for their animals and ensuring they are comfortable despite the dropping temperatures. Many agriculture organizations hold meetings during the winter since it is one of the more convenient times for farmers to get off the farm.
Housing livestock in barn is especially handy this time of year. Barns allow farmers to maintain a consistent temperature to keep animals comfortable. If they were outside, they would be much colder. Inside, they are protected from the elements.
