Why Celebrate June Dairy Month?

There are so many reasons to celebrate the hard working cows and people that make the dairy industry a great addition to our country, but for the sake of time and space, I’m going to discuss just a couple reasons I love it. Stay tuned for more June Dairy Month posts this month!!

My Holstein, Allie

Milk is good for your body, your family and your wallet. Dairy farms work hard every day to preserve natural resources and continue to increase sustainability on their farms to someday pass it onto the next generation. However, none of this would be possible without healthy cows. Cow comfort and health is our top priority and dairy farmers are continually working to find new ways to keep our cows comfortable and happy. After all, healthy cows produce wholesome, nutritious milk that packs a powerful punch with nine essential nutrients including calcium, vitamin D and protein that is important for everyone from small children to senior citizens. And for just 25 cents per glass, milk is easy on your wallet.

I am very proud to be a part of the dairy industry. Not just because dairy products are good for you and provide nine essential nutrients to help people everywhere eat a balanced and healthy diet, but because of the dedication and passion of people just like me.

I love the people in the dairy industry. I’ve never met anyone who works harder than a farmer. And farmers aren’t the only ones. There are so many more people involved in the allied industry that support dairy farmers and those that haul milk and work at processing plants.

More than anything, I believe in the dairy industry. Most dairy farms have been around for many generations, and it's the same passion I described earlier that keeps it going from one generation to the next. Everyone in the dairy industry works hard every day to ensure our milk supply continues to be safe. From the farmer keeping any sick cows in a separate pen and ensuring their milk does not reach the food supply to the lab tech at the processing plant testing each and every load of milk for antibiotics before it is unloaded, there is a lot that goes into keeping milk safe. But, we wouldn't have it any other way.

That is why I celebrate the dairy industry each and every day, not just in June.
So, why do I celebrate June Dairy Month? Simple. It’s all about the people who work hard to provide a great life for the cows they love, who in turn provide wholesome, nutritious dairy foods like milk, cheese and yogurt to you and your family. I’m proud to call these people my dairy family.
Dairy friends!
This month, I challenge each of you to try a new dairy product and also to learn more about the dairy practices and dairy farmers behind them. I love talking to people about dairy and so do a lot of my friends, so if you have questions please ask!

I hope you will join me in raising a glass of milk this June Dairy Month and every day to our wonderful cows and dairy farmers who make it possible for us to have such a wide variety of dairy products available every single day.
