School just started for kids across Indiana. We always started school the day after Labor Day and the weekend before, we would head over the mountains to Yakima, Washington, to get fruit. Mom and Granny were always really into canning so we would come back with a ton of peaches, pears, nectarines and anything else we found.
I didn't get into canning until last year and I love it! I picked up a box of peaches at a local orchard two weeks ago and they ripened while I was out of town on a business trip. Last weekend I got to can them! I should mention that I LOVE peaches and may have snacked on quite a few of them before they even got to the canning stage. Oops!
After I filled all the jars, I had about half a quart of peach halves left over so I made a batch of jam. It's delicious!
